Abstract: Experiments on Nigerian politics and restructuring of the state have not yielded the expected outcomes. Persistent instability, based on the character of politics, has threatened national security. State-terrorism and insurgencies have pervaded the Nigerian politics, and the political economy of insecurity is bizarre with acts of violence conducted and perpetrated by the state against citizens for economic and political goals. Motivated by immoral commitment, polluted with blind partisan politics and constrained by incapacity with as much aversion to violence, state-actors fail and betray the trust reposed in them. Whereas politicians are generally distrustful, contemptuous, deceitful, and destructive, their cynicisms about people's wellbeing and feelings are rooted in their perceptions of and self-interests in governance. The rupture, disillusionment of people's expectations gradually spark-off terrorism and lit-up national insecurity. This nebulosity of insecurity was aggregated by indistinguishable display of character, contemptuous minds of state-actors, and leadership abdication of line of duties/responsibilities in the face of national catastrophe. The study examines the implications of terrorism and identifies how state failures and involvement in the so-called counter-terrorism violate and erode national security; endangered via the internationalization of violence and installed ideological interests. This explores how people's participation in politics and solid electoral support have jeopardized their wellbeing and produced bad governance, fatigued leadership, and weakened institutions. The overwhelming political mistrust in, and lack of trustworthiness on political drivers have undermined the institutional capacity to deliver services. Theoretical and methodological approaches adopt state and political economy theories to underpin the character of terrorism and insecurity. The state of poverty, monstrous politics, and repression in Nigeria are a product of anti-state movements championed by politicians.

Abstract: The Aga Khan University Hospital has experienced a significant rate of staff turnover, as leading recruitment agencies have effectively enticed their employees to seek opportunities in other locations. Individuals moving to international destinations are presented with attractive compensation packages, which encompass competitive salaries, substantial allowances, opportunities for career advancement, and comprehensive assistance for relocating their families. Therefore, this study sought to investigate the influence of employee retention strategies on employee turnover at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi City County, Kenya. A descriptive research design was utilized in the study. A total of 795 participants from 12 departments were involved in this investigation. The technique employed for participant selection was stratified sampling. This means that a fundamental random method was applied to choose the study participants. The sample consisted of 266 respondents. Questionnaires were employed in the study to gather data directly from the participants. To evaluate their effectiveness, the study surveyed 26 hospital employees. The research assessed the content validity of the questionnaires to ensure their precision. The Cronbach's alpha correlation coefficient was utilized in the study to evaluate the consistency and reliability of the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, were applied to analyze the data. Additionally, the data was analyzed using inferential statistics, which implemented multiple regression analysis techniques and focused on the relationships between variables. The results were presented using tables. The research indicated that strategies for competitive compensation and professional development initiatives played a significant role in decreasing turnover rates. The findings of the study suggest that an employee recognition program fosters a productive environment where employees feel appreciated and recognized for their contributions. Furthermore, since employees who perceive their personal lives as valued are more inclined to remain in their positions, the work-life balance strategy enhances job satisfaction. The study recommends that the hospital should establish a systematic program that consistently acknowledges staff achievements, and it should focus on implementing flexible scheduling alternatives, such as remote work, reduced workweeks, or adjustable hours. These measures can help employees manage their personal and professional responsibilities more effectively, leading to increased job satisfaction and decreased employee turnover.

Abstract: Many civil society organizations rely on external funding, which can be inconsistent and competitive. This can hinder project sustainability and growth. Over-reliance on foreign donors can lead to a lack of local ownership and may affect the relevance of projects to local needs. Civil society organizations may struggle with public perception, where they are viewed with suspicion or as foreign agents rather than local advocates. The performance of projects undertaken by civil society organizations in Kenya has been a subject of scrutiny, particularly in terms of their effectiveness and impact. Therefore, this study sought to investigate the influence of stakeholder identification on performance of projects by nongovernmental organizations, the humanitarian sector in Nairobi County, Kenya. The design was descriptive. Seven civil society projects in Kenya were the focus of the study. There were 96 respondents, including 20 project managers and 76 members of the project team. A survey with 96 participants was taken. The review utilized an organized survey with both shut and questions that could go either way. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze quantitative data, and metrics like mean and standard deviation were used to summarize the distribution of the data. Inferential measurements, including connection and multiple regression analysis were used to assess the existing relationship between the study variables. The study findings showed that Stakeholder identification positively influences project performance, with a significant impact at the 0.05 level. This means that better stakeholder identification improved project outcomes. This study concluded that clearly identifying stakeholders is importance at the beginning of the project. The study recommends that the organizations should prioritize effective stakeholder identification processes, ensuring that all relevant parties are involved and their interests are aligned with project goals.

Abstract: This tracer study examines the employability and career outcomes of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) graduates from the University of La Salette, Incorporated (ULS) between 2019 and 2023. The study aims to evaluate graduates’ employment status, job satisfaction, and the relevance of their academic preparation to current professional roles, thereby assessing the effectiveness of the BSHM program in meeting Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and accreditation standards. Using a descriptive research design, data were gathered through online surveys and interviews from a representative sample selected via simple random sampling. The structured questionnaire covered graduates’ profiles, employment details, perceptions of school contributions, and satisfaction with university services. Statistical analyses were employed to interpret the data, including descriptive statistics, weighted means, ranking, and ANOVA.

Findings indicate that most graduates are young, single males who typically secure regular employment within six months, often utilizing digital platforms and personal networks. The program’s curriculum, especially its On-the-Job Training component, was highly relevant, fostering critical competencies such as technical skills, communication, leadership, and critical thinking, supporting career advancement and job satisfaction. Graduates also reported high satisfaction with faculty, instruction quality, and practical training. The study recommends enhancing practical experiences through stronger industry partnerships, expanding career support services, fostering collaborative efforts to improve employment conditions, continuously updating faculty development, and conducting regular tracer studies to maintain curriculum relevance in a dynamic hospitality industry.

Abstract: Public health institutions in Trans Nzoia County were at the forefront of collaborating with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to implement crucial reforms aimed at ensuring quality service delivery and better performance. However, according to the Ministry of Health, public health institutions in Trans Nzoia County continued to face challenges such as funding by the National and County Governments, remuneration and welfare of healthcare workers, and the availability of adequately skilled manpower, all of which hindered service delivery. This concern motivated numerous scholars in strategic management to explore the topic, thereby identifying a research gap. The study primarily aimed to examine how the strategic planning in Trans Nzoia County affected the performance of public health institutions. Primary data was collected from the 87 public health institutions within Trans Nzoia County for the 2019-2023 period. The data was analyzed using SPSS Version 22 software. A descriptive research design was adopted, with stratified sampling as the technique. Findings were presented in tables. This study's results showed that strategic planning positively relates to hospital performance but were not significant at the 95% confidence level. The study recommendation is that an organization's management should be able to align its goals and objectives with the implementation strategy and communicate the strategies to staff for a sense of belonging and motivation.

Abstract: This study aimed to examine the contribution of broadcast media campaigns in law enforcement on crime prevention in Rwanda: A case of Rwanda Broadcasting Agency. This research was a mixed research design with both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study utilized the simple random and purposive sampling technique. To determine the sample size of 92 respondents, Yamane’s formula was used. The quantitative data was gathered using structured questionnaire, while qualitative data was gathered using focus group discussion. For quantitative data, study employed both descriptive and inferential statistics. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 26 version) facilitated data analysis, enabling a more understanding of how broadcast media campaign contributes to crime prevention efforts, while thematic analysis was used for qualitative data collected in group discussion conducted to the 19 Law enforcement officers working in the media department and crime prevention division guided by Deputy Director of department at Kimihurura headquarters located in Kigali City, Rwanda. The results showed that the relationship between contribution of broadcast media campaigns in law enforcement and crime prevention was .868** which showed that there was a statistically significant correlation between broadcast media campaigns in law enforcement and crime prevention in Rwanda by RBA. It demonstrated that a statistically significant correlation existed between the role of broadcast media coverage of audio-visual information in law enforcement and crime prevention in Rwanda by RBA. The study concluded that there was a significant relationship between the broadcast media use in law enforcement and crime prevention in Rwanda at RBA. The study recommended that Rwanda broadcasting agency and Law enforcement agency should continue to develop and improve their collaboration in the way of using broadcast media in law enforcement for the purpose of crime prevention in Rwandan society.

Abstract: Works of Tehmina Durrani, Taslima Nasrin and Shashi Deshpande reflect the place of Women in the Post – Colonial period, the contribution of women to stand up to the repressive Cultural set-up and to alter the social milieu by their progressive efforts to find their rightful place in society. Societies portrayed in Tehmina’s My Feudal Lord and Blasphemy, Deshpande’s That Long Silence and The Binding Vine and Nasrin’s Lajja, prescribe traditional and well – defined roles for women. All the said novels peep into the societal forces responsible for the marginalization of women in South Asian societies. Deshpande focuses on the lives of middle class Indian women striving to negotiate with a highly repressive patriarchal society. Tehmina concerns herself with the miserable conditions of upper class women in a repressive Muslim set-up which treats women like slaves and violence against women is a way of life. Nasrin’s Lajja speaks of the dehumanization of women in a society hijacked and manipulated by Muslim fanatics. Whatever the scenario, all the three women novelists agree that women are the worst sufferers.

The paper makes an attempt to decipher whether women in the said works evolve and reconstruct themselves vis-à-vis the challenges they encounter in finding their just place in the patriarchal set-up that is almost similar in South Asian societies. The texts reflect that women ultimately come to the realization that they just deteriorate and erase their identity in accommodating and adhering to the unjust demands and expectations of their spouses and the family. Marriage, considered to be a sacred institution, spells doom for women. They find themselves trapped, suffocated, degraded and dehumanized. Then they rebel, stand up and take on the forces that are hell bent upon exploiting them and decimating their personalities as human beings.

In Nepal, traditional marriage practices are often deeply entrenched in rigid gender roles, which significantly limit women's rights and opportunities. This dynamic is vividly illustrated in Arpan Sharma's “The Lives We Leave Behind”, where the protagonist navigates the constraints of societal expectations and the quest for personal autonomy, reflecting the struggles faced by many women within this cultural context. Similarly, Khaled Hosseini's “The Kite Runner” illuminates the gender disparities present in Afghan society, where cultural and patriarchal forces shape the lives of female characters like Hassan’s mother and Soraya. Throughout the narrative, both Arpan Sharma’s and Khaled Hosseini’s characters engage in transformative journeys that underscore the necessity of educational opportunities and economic empowerment, highlighting how these elements can serve as catalysts for social change. The argument posits that empowering women through increased access to education and financial resources is not merely beneficial but essential for fostering gender equality and transforming perceptions about marriage and women's roles within society. As Nepal and Afghanistan navigates the delicate balance between long-standing traditions and burgeoning modern influences, this research paper provides invaluable insights into the factors steering change in marriage practices, underlining the critical importance of education, economic autonomy and robust social support networks as echoed in both Arpan Sharma's and Khaled Hosseini's narratives.

Abstract: Literary theory serves as the foundational framework for contemporary research in English literature, offering and exploring perspectives to interrogate, interpret, and analyse texts. Theories such as Formalism, Structuralism, Post-Structuralism, Feminism, New Historicism, Post-colonialism, Eco-criticism and Marxism enable contemporary researchers to explore the relationship between literature, culture, identity society. Formalism relates to the structure of a literary text; Feminism emphasises the representation of women in literature; Marxism seeks to find and analyse class struggle and the exploitation of workers at the hands of the capitalists; Post – Structuralism deconstructs traditional ideas of meaning and truth. Post – Colonial studies analyse literary works in the context of colonial dominance and the experiences of the colonized. The study underscores how literary theory fosters interdisciplinary dialogues, enabling scholars to address issues such as power dynamics, gender issues, environmental crises and cultural hybridity through literary analysis. Thenotions associated with literary writings as being divinely inspired have been challenged and deconstructed. A literary text is just like any other text in social sciences and makes sense only in its cultural matrix. This paper argues that literary theory enriches the understanding of a text by pointing to its origin and the inter-play of power equations and the cultural context. Moreover, Literary theories have in a way refined research. Earlier, researchers had to depend entirely on tracing influences, relating the works to the biographies of the authors and wrote impressionistic critiques. With literary theories on the scene, researchers enjoy greater freedom in choosing authors, to select texts that reflect and co-relate with the tenets of a specific theoretical configuration. The research fits into a spectrum and becomes part of a body of research in a particular field. Earlier, research, however brilliant the Critique might have been, remained an isolated piece of criticism.

Set in both India and the United States, the stories explore the nuances of cultural alienation, the longing for belonging, and the tension between past and present. Lahiri's protagonists often find themselves in a state of liminality, caught between two worlds that never fully embrace them. This displacement leads to an ongoing search for self-definition, as they navigate relationships, family expectations, and personal aspirations. Through intricate storytelling, Lahiri examines the psychological and emotional impacts of migration, both voluntary and forced, and the effects it has on personal identity and familial bonds. The characters’ experiences reflect the broader immigrant experience, where individuals must reconcile their heritage with the desire to assimilate into their new environment. Abstract: Food stands as a vital element of cultural identity, extending beyond basic sustenance to embody a rich narrative of heritage, customs and community connections. Around the globe, culinary practices are intricately linked to the historical, geographical and sociocultural development of various regions. This research paper delves into the traditional Himachali Dham, a sumptuous repast from Himachal Pradesh, India, alongside the indigenous culinary practices of African tribal communities, to shed light on the profound significance of food in expressing cultural identity.

The Himachali Dham is not purely a repast; it represents a ritual steeped in spiritual and communal meaning. With dishes such as ‘madra’ (a yogurt-based curry), lentils (dal) and rice, this elaborate feast is prepared with care, typically without the use of onions, garlic or meat, underlining themes of purity and simplicity. According to local culture it is served during the time nuptial bonds and festivals, the Dham acts as a symbol of the sacred nature of food within Himachali culture, where culinary practices are inextricably linked to religious observances and communal gatherings.

Similarly, the traditional cuisines of African tribal communities further illustrate the vital role food plays as a cultural marker. From staple grains like maize and millet to collective meals prepared for festivities, these culinary practices often reflect deep-rooted identities and core principles of solidarity. Ceremonial dishes are integral to significant life events and rituals, serving to strengthen social ties and pay homage to spiritual beliefs, much like the communal implications surrounding the Himachali Dham.

By examining these diverse culinary traditions, this research paper emphasizes that food transcends its function as mere nourishment, evolving into a crucial narrative of identity, belonging and continuity. It reveals a universal truth: food acts as a powerful conduit for cultural expression, fostering connections within communities while safeguarding the rich heritage of various populations worldwide. Through culinary traditions, communities can communicate shared values, honor their histories and build a sense of belonging that endures through generations.

Abstract: The ongoing expansion of the market, coupled with rapid technological advancements, has greatly influenced the increasing demand for superior services from consumers. As a result, many organizations, including Kenya Railways, are adopting technological solutions such as Management Information Systems (MIS) to enhance their operational efficiency and service delivery. However, insufficient integration of MIS can lead to poor data sharing among various organizational departments, which in turn can cause a significant drop in productivity within the organization. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to investigate the effects of financial management information systems on the performance of corporate oragnizations in Kenya. A descriptive research design was utilized for this investigation. The unit of analysis was the state-owned corporation, specifically Kenya Railways, while the unit of observation comprised the employees of Kenya Railways, which has a total workforce of 2,700 individuals. Stratified sampling techniques were employed, and participants were selected using a simple random sampling method, aiming for a target sample size of 385 individuals. A systematic questionnaire was used to collect primary data. Before data collection, a pilot test was conducted with 38 participants from the same organization, representing 10% of the total population, and this group was excluded from the final analysis. Construct and content validity were assessed, and reliability was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha. The quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, focusing on means and standard deviations, and presented in tables and graphs. Qualitative data underwent thematic analysis, while inferential statistics, including multiple regression analysis, were also applied. The findings indicated a significant positive correlation between financial, procurement and the performance of Kenya Railways Corporation. The study concludes that the Financial Management Information System (FMIS) provides accurate and timely financial information, enabling KRC to make informed decisions on budget allocations and financial planning. The study recommends enhancing the financial management information system with user-friendly, scalable technology for large data management.

Abstract: This study investigates the resettlement initiatives for survivors of the Lake Nyos disaster in Menchum Division, Northwest Cameroon, following the catastrophic gas eruption of 1986. It posits that while multiple local, national, and international efforts were mobilized to aid the displaced population, these resettlement interventions were predominantly insufficient and poorly executed. The analysis further argues that the resettled communities’ aspirations and needs remain unmet, primarily due to government actions that lacked responsiveness to local realities and the inefficacy of overarching resettlement strategies. Employing a qualitative methodology that incorporates interviews, archival documents, and secondary sources, the study critically examines the resettlement challenges encountered by Lake Nyos disaster survivors. The findings underscore key deficiencies in the resettlement efforts, including excessive bureaucratic centralization, corruption, and the systematic exclusion of local perspectives, which have exacerbated the socio-economic vulnerabilities of the displaced population. This paper also identifies a significant gap in the literature, as scholars have largely neglected the long-term socio-economic impacts of resettlement policies and the failure to integrate displaced communities into sustainable post-disaster recovery frameworks.

Abstract: This study investigates the integration of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) within Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) contexts, addressing the critical intersection of language teaching and technical skills development. Using a qualitative case study methodology at Arrass College of Technology in Saudi Arabia, the research examines how ESP pedagogies can be systematically embedded in technical curricula to enhance both linguistic competence and workplace readiness. Data collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis reveal that effective ESP integration requires a genre-based approach that addresses authentic workplace communication needs while supporting technical content acquisition. The findings demonstrate that task-based language teaching methodologies, when aligned with industry-specific communication requirements, significantly improve students’ technical vocabulary acquisition, genre knowledge, and communicative confidence. The study identifies key implementation challenges, including limited teacher preparation for specialized language instruction and institutional barriers to curriculum integration. A sustainable ESP-TVET model is proposed, drawing on sociocultural theories of language learning and needs analysis frameworks, which positions language as central rather than peripheral to technical education. This model emphasizes collaborative teaching approaches, authentic assessment practices, and ongoing alignment with evolving workplace communication demands. The findings contribute to ESP pedagogy by providing evidence-based strategies for language teaching in vocational contexts and offer practical implications for ESP practitioners, TVET administrators, and language teacher educators working in technical education settings.
